STONE FLOOR MEDALLIONS INFORMATION:

Marble Floor Medallions are available in the designs shown on this page or in a custom design of your own, e.g., a family crest or a corporation logo.
Our master craftsmen execute marble floor designs in marble, granite, or travertine. The stone medallions have been engineered to fit into stone floors or hardwood floors. You may customize any water jet marble designs with elements from other flooring medallions or borders, different stones, sizes.

Prices are shown for a number of popular standard sizes but can be customized. Most of the floor medallions can be scaled up to any size. Twelve-foot diameters are not unusual.

It's essential to understand the difference between mosaic, tile medallions, and stone waterjet medallions to appreciate Czar Floors products' advantages.

Czar Floors makes waterjet stone medallions by cutting natural stone slabs with a waterjet assembled as tight as possible on a solid backer. Stones are polished and sealed, and there are no gaps or grout between individual pieces. You don't have to worry about cleaning the grout or matching the grouts in color. The availability of computerized waterjet equipment allows us to cut stone to incredibly close tolerances.

The standard stone medallion thickness is 3/8". This thickness matches most porcelain tile thicknesses.

It can be made in other thicknesses, such as 3/4" for hardwood floor installations. For outdoor applications or different thickness requirements, you may order solid marble medallions 15-18mm thickness without aluminum.

The stones have no grout lines and are polished and sealed. Czar Floors stone medallions can also be specially treated to create a "non-slip" tumbled surface for an additional charge. Stone medallions can be installed on either floor or walls and can be used as backsplashes in kitchens or as tabletops.

Czar Floors stone medallions use a sturdy aluminum backer. This "space" material is light and strong, allowing for easy handling and shipping. The same non-corrosive aluminum is used in avionics. The backside of the medallion is rough sanded to permit better adhesion to the subfloor. Thinset or adhesive can be used. Medallions up to 72" can be made as a single piece, ready to install. Please see Stone medallions installation instructions for more details.

For the tabletop applications, we can make the base thicker and have the finished edge.

Other types of stone inlays available on the market:

  • Mosaic medallions are made from small stones, tiles, or glass pieces assembled together with grout gaps. It's typically attached to mesh on the back. Gaps between pieces have to be filled with grout. Czar Floors can also make this type of medallions using marble or glass chips. Mosaic is more common in a large backsplash, pool walls, or shower walls. We supply extra chips for every color used in the design. Please contact us for a quote.
  • Tile medallions are made from cutting standard off-the-shelf ceramic, porcelain, or travertine tiles. These medallions are typically shipped as a set of labeled precut tiles to be assembled on-site. The installer will have to put grout between the tiles and assemble the pieces. Medallions will have seam lines going across the surface. We do not produce this type of medallions.

Marble Medallions Common Questions

What is the right floor medallion size for the room?

A good rule of thumb is to choose the size to be between 1/3 and 1/2 of the room's width or smallest dimension. For example, if the room is 20' long by 15' wide, the medallion can be 15'/3 = 5'(60"). 48" or 72" will work as well. Try to cut a piece of paper and place it on the floor to visualize.

Can I change the stones in the design?

You may change any of the stones in the design. Some medallions have an icon Modify design and submit for a quote which indicates that you can customize the materials on-line and submit it for a quote. For other models please send an email with your suggested changes. See all Available stones.

I'm concerned with marble being slippery. What should I do?

Our marble medallions are polished as standard. One way to address slippage is to seal the marble with Anti-Slip penetrating sealers - for example, Miracle ANTISLIP6 511 sealant. Alternatively, you may order your medallion "honed" for a non-polished surface. Please note that marble colors may be "duller" when unpolished.

I need to install my floor soon and can’t wait for the custom medallion.

You may install the tiles, prepare the site, and install the medallion later quickly. This way, you don’t have a hole in the floor and have part of the setup done beforehand.

  • Mark the center and medallion size on the subfloor.
  • Lay down all the tiles with proper grout spacing, centering the tiles on the marked center of the medallion. Make sure to have equal pieces of tiles around the medallion shape.
  • You now have an area slightly larger than a future medallion. In this space, use only a touch of thin set to hold tiles in place.
  • Don’t grout inside the medallion area.
  • When the medallion arrives, lay it on the tiles and mark the contour. Mark the surrounding pieces with numbers to record their position.
  • Pop the tiles and cut them to shape with a grinder, following the trace lines.
  • Install the medallion and surrounding tile pieces with thin-set and grout around them as described in general installation instructions.
